Job overview

Working Full time: 37.5 hours per week

The post holder will be an integral part of the Gynaecology Cancer Team, who assists, supports and co-ordinates the pathway for patients after completion of primary treatment. A large part of the role is providing administrative and coordination support to patients, families, consultants, cancer nurse specialists and other staff involved in the cancer pathway.

The successful applicant will ensure the efficient channelling and close co-ordination of the patient personalised stratified follow up (PSFU) pathway ensuring robust communication between medical staff, GPs, patients, relatives, members of the public and other disciplines within the Trust and close liaison with the community staff and oncology teams. The post holder will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity.

The post holder will have excellent communication skills and be willing to undertake on-going training and development. In addition, the post holder will be able to signpost patients and carers to the relevant sources of support and information appropriate to their needs.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will also be an integral part of the Urogynaecology Team, providing administrative and clinical support to the Urogynaecology service. The list below is to outline the main duties involved; however this is subject to change and will vary within the given role. The duties and responsibilities listed below should be undertaken in accordance with the levels of competence as defined in the RCN/UKONS career framework for Cancer Nursing. In addition all staff are expected to act in accordance with the values and behaviours of the Trust


Working for our organisation

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

* The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
* Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
* Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 5916 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000. This includes 361,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

Person specification


Qualification

* Good General Education with GCSE English and Mathematics
* ECDL or equivalent experience
* Level 3 Health or social care qualification (e.g. NVQ or similar)
* Evidence of continued role development
* Basic counselling


Knowledge & Experience

* Relevant Health or Social Care experience
* Efficient in the use of Microsoft Word for Windows, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and internet
* Advanced knowledge of medical terminology
* Understanding of person-centred care
* Experience of coaching/teaching patients and carers
* Previous medical secretarial experience
* Understanding of Macmillan Cancer Support and its role across the UK
* Experience co-ordinating a patient workload
* Awareness of Improving Outcomes; A Strategy for Cancer and other national cancer policies
* Knowledge of relevant cancer treatments, interventions and terminology

Enhanced DBS check applications that are submitted with omitted or incorrect information will be withdrawn. The cost of the DBS application will be deducted from your salary over the first three months of employment.
