Senior Environmental Specialist Power & Renewables Inverurie
A leading engineering contractor operating across the UK and Europe is currently recruiting for a Senior Environmental Specialist to provide strategic environmental leadership across high-value power transmission and renewable energy projects.
Based from Inverurie, this is a permanent opportunity for an experienced environmental professional to join a business with a strong culture of performance, collaboration, and sustainability. You will take a key role in managing compliance, supporting permitting, and guiding best practice environmental delivery across multiple live sites.
Key Responsibilities:
* Serve as the lead environmental authority on a portfolio of power and renewable energy construction projects.
* Ensure compliance with all UK and Scottish environmental legislation, consents, permits, and client-specific standards.
* Develop, review, and implement Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs) in line with project delivery.
* Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections, identifying non-conformances and driving corrective actions.
* Manage environmental monitoring activities including dust, noise, water quality, waste, and ecological surveys.
* Engage and liaise with regulatory authorities (e.g., SEPA), statutory consultees, and client environmental teams.
* Support internal teams and subcontractors with guidance on environmental controls, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies.
* Deliver toolbox talks and site inductions to promote environmental awareness and behavioural improvement.
* Lead sustainability reporting initiatives and contribute to carbon reduction goals across the project lifecycle.
* Maintain accurate environmental documentation including audit reports, incident logs, and compliance registers.
Candidate Requirements:
* Degree-qualified in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Ecology, or related discipline.
* Minimum 57 years experience in a construction or infrastructure environment, preferably with power, utilities, or renewables exposure.
* Proven record managing environmental compliance on large-scale or multi-site construction projects.
* Detailed knowledge of Scottish and UK environmental frameworks, including EIA, SEPA permits, and protected species regulations.
* Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across project levels.
* Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IEMA, CIWEM) is highly desirable.
* Full UK driving licence essential due to site travel requirements.
