Job Description
As an Experienced Mechanical Engineer you will work across the business, focusing on the safe operation and long‑term reliability of refinery assets. Your role includes providing technical support to operations and capital projects, proposing improvements to increase operational availability, and leading small engineering projects.
Responsibilities
* Focus on long‑term reliability improvements, justifying and recommending reliability improvement projects and equipment enhancements.
* Set the optimal scope for repairs during shutdowns to ensure equipment can meet market demand during the next mission period.
* Provide technical support to operations, troubleshoot disciplinary equipment issues, and recommend correct actions.
* Understand, evaluate and forecast equipment degradation mechanisms to decide future repair scopes.
* Evaluate equipment condition and carry out fitness‑for‑service calculations, by hand or through Finite Element Analysis, to ensure suitability.
* Re‑rate discipline‑specific equipment for potential increased production capacity.
* Undertake small engineering projects (up to £250,000) and specify and purchase replacement equipment (up to £750,000).
* Gain appreciation of non‑disciplinary equipment and understand roles of other departments in a complex 24/7 operating refinery.

Requirements / Key Skills
* Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
* Chartered status or working towards Chartered status.
* Good engineering/technical knowledge.
* Competent IT knowledge.
* Strong communication skills.
* Safety awareness.
