Ranger - Dorking Summary This is an exciting opportunity to join the Surrey Hills ranger community as part of our Central Woodlands team. Whilst this role mainly focuses on our Leith Hill Estate, you will be working closely with other members of the Woodlands team across a range of sites in the Central Surrey Hills, developing a wide range of practical conservation and countryside management skills and taking a leading role in volunteer management at our sites. What it's like to work here The Surrey Hills is a large countryside property group which looks after a wide range of iconic sites and much-loved landscapes. As part of the Central Woodlands team this includes the countryside estates at Polesden Lacey, Leith Hill, Bookham Commons and Abinger Roughs. The Leith Hill Estate includes the highest point in South East England and is made up of extensive woodland, areas of heathland, farmland and historic features including the iconic Leith Hill Tower. The site attracts large numbers of visitors year-round, and the ranger team plays an important role in balancing conservation priorities with providing access and enjoyment for everyone. What you'll be doing As Ranger, you will be working alongside the Area Ranger at Leith Hill to help deliver day-to-day practical management of the varied habitats across the estate, combining with visitor engagement and management of our volunteer teams. As part of our wider Woodlands team you will also be working across sites with other Area Rangers in our group to support and deliver vital conservation work at places such as Bookham Commons and Polesden. No two days are the same, with constantly evolving projects and changeable landscapes at your fingertips. You’ll also share and promote the work that we do here, ensuring special places like these are here to be both protected and enjoyed by everyone for ever. This will see you responding to queries and explaining the value of the work being undertaken. You'll be working alongside our tenant farmers, internal and external stakeholders and across sites in the Surrey Hills, you'll help to deliver on meaningful conservation and habitat improvement work from planning to onsite delivery.
