Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to individuals in various settings, including assisted living facilities, nursing homes, private homes and in the community. This position requires a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our clients through personalised care and assistance.
Responsibilities
This specific role involves supporting a lady in her mid 20s, who has an acquired brain injury. You would be required to prompt and assist her with daily living tasks i.e., going out on social visits, prompting personal care and domestic tasks and also encouraging her to live a more independent life. This role mainly entails companionship visits and in depth observation of behaviour.
* Provide personal care and support to clients, including assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
* Assist with medication administration and ensure adherence to prescribed care plans.
* Support clients with mobility and physical activities, including heavy lifting when necessary.
* Prepare meals according to dietary requirements and preferences.
* Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote mental and emotional well-being.
* Implement behaviour management strategies for clients with specific needs, including those with Alzheimer's or dementia.
* Maintain a safe and clean environment for clients, ensuring hygiene standards are met.
* Document client progress and report any changes in health or behaviour to the appropriate personnel.
* Drive clients to appointments or social activities as required.
The client can often display challenging behaviour so having the ability to manage challenging situations would be essential in this role.
Shift Pattern:
Day shift: 9am-7pm
Waking night: 7pm-Midnight
Sleep-in Shift: Midnight- 9am
Skills
* Experience in assisted living, senior care, or home care settings is highly desirable.
* Knowledge of patient care practices, including first aid and medication administration.
* Previous experience in nursing homes or hospice care is advantageous.
* Familiarity with Alzheimer's and dementia care techniques is beneficial.
* Strong caregiving skills with a focus on empathy and patience.
* Ability to manage challenging behaviours effectively while providing support.
* Competence in meal preparation tailored to individual dietary needs.
* Valid driving licence and ability to transport clients when necessary.
