Job Description
Exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer, providing technical leadership across a range of mechanical, electrical and control system activities to support safe, reliable, sustainable assets and the agency’s net‑zero commitments.
Responsibilities
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for HV & LV power systems and control systems across assets such as pumping stations and flood defence structures.
* Provide senior technical guidance to the whole organisation, influencing design, delivery and maintenance of electrical systems.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for employees working on electrical systems.
* Hold a national incident response role, covering normal and out‑of‑hours situations.
* Contribute to the design, documentation and review of control systems and SCADA/telemetry systems.
Qualifications & Experience Required
* Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Experience with control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489 and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience developing and delivering safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Experience testing, isolation and proving high and low voltage electrical systems.
* Understanding of risk‑based maintenance philosophies, FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Skill in drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work‑management, teamwork and communication skills.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and Chartered Engineer registration (or realistic prospect within 12 months).
* UK driving licence.
Additional Information
The role is hybrid; a base location will be near your home, but some travel and overnight stays may be required.
