About the role
This role provides strategic guidance, manages teams, and embeds environmental sustainability into operational delivery and decision-making on a construction project of significant scale. The role will support supervising and mentoring of other roles, including specialists/contractors. The role will also engage and liaise with specialist subcontractors and consultants, operational project teams and materials SME.
What you’ll be doing
* Identification and management of environmental risks & opportunities
* Provide strategic environmental/sustainability expertise across project lifecycle
* Oversee environmental compliance and management system
* Oversee planned & unplanned inspections
* Environmental guidance & training for operational and supply chain teams
* Investigating environmental incidents
* Liaising with clients, regulators, external stakeholders
* Reporting against environmental KPIs
* Strategic planning/governance
* Collaborating with wider team
* Managing others / plan resourcing
Who we’re looking for
* Full driving license and flexibility to travel
* Professional Membership level of a relevant professional body (IEMA/CIEEM/CIWEM) or ability to demonstrate equivalent experience and competence
* Good knowledge of environmental management with relevant experience working in a construction or other operational‑focused environment
* Practical experience and sound knowledge of environmental statutory requirements, including environmental legislation, ecology mitigation, environmental licensing and consent applications and regulation
* Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and embed environmental sustainability into project delivery
* Good interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
