Offer description

Description This is an exciting opportunity to join our Financial Reconciliations department as a team leader. The team is part of Finance and deals with the day-to-day reconciliation of Nationwide’s financial transactions. In this role, you’ll lead one of our squads with responsibilities that include managing the team’s day to day workloads, stakeholder management, team development and training. You will also help drive us towards becoming more controlled, effective and efficient. This is a 6 month secondment opportunity. At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected. For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at our Swindon office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here. Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process. If you’re a colleague on long term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application. Responsibilities What you’ll be doing You’ll lead a squad of financial reconcilers which will be responsible for the oversight of approximately 50 balance sheet reconciliations. As a result, you’ll require a comprehensive understanding of all end-to-end processes. As the team leader, you will also ensure that the squad works optimally to minimise out of tolerance exceptions. Management responsibilities include weekly catch ups with all team members, weekly squad meetings focussing on task, monthly career focused 121s and management of underperformance. To this end, previous management experience would be desirable, but not necessarily essential for the right candidate. You’ll help facilitate resolution of exceptions and issues encountered by your squad and escalate any issues. A key element to facilitate this is to build and maintain successful stakeholder relationships across the business areas. Another part of your responsibilities is to act as a primary contact for senior finance management and other stakeholders for all queries relating to your squad. Furthermore, you will be a key attendee and contributor at the monthly balance sheet review meeting with senior management, helping to manage the production of MI, adding insightful commentary and analysis to aid decision making and resource allocation. You’ll ensure processes are adequately covered, documented, challenged and developed under effective controls, and support the implementation and integrity of any change programmes that impact reconciliations. About you As a minimum for this role, you will: Be able to show financial reconciliations experience within Nationwide Building Society Possess a basic understanding of accounting Have the ability to manage stakeholders and build strong relationships across the business Demonstrate excellent Microsoft Office knowledge and skills Have excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together.
