Job Description
We are supporting a long‑established UK manufacturing organisation in their search for an organised, commercially minded buyer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high‑performing purchasing team within a fast‑paced, short‑lead production environment. Hybrid working is offered, combining on-site collaboration with the flexibility of working from home.
As buyer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the timely sourcing of components and consumables, supporting production continuity and driving value across procurement activity. You will be responsible for day‑to‑day purchasing, supplier management and contributing to procurement improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and administer purchase orders accurately and efficiently
* Source, research and evaluate suppliers to achieve best pricing and value
* Negotiate and renew local procurement contracts
* Build effective working relationships with suppliers, contractors and internal stakeholders
* Monitor supplier performance and undertake regular reviews
* Achieve cost savings in line with business targets
* Maintain stock levels and ensure continuity of supply
* Identify and support process improvements within procurement
* Lead and deliver small procurement projects
* Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures and safe systems of work
Requirements for the role:
* Experience working within a busy procurement function in a manufacturing or process‑driven environment
* Strong negotiation skills and excellent commercial awareness
* Confident communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence at all levels
* Solid understanding of procurement systems and processes, including effective PO administration
* Experience with expediting orders and ensuring timely supply
* A track record of working to procurement budgets and savings targets
Experience in process improvement or previous exposure to buying within manufacturing would be beneficial.
