To provide general reception and clericalduties as part of a team responsible for the administrative functions within abusy, computerised, five-partner training practice.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a professional and efficient reception and administrative service to patients, clinicians, and the wider practice team. Duties include managing appointments, answering telephone enquiries, greeting and directing patients, maintaining accurate records, supporting the smooth day-to-day running of reception services, and ensuring excellent patient care and confidentiality at all times. The role also involves assisting with general administrative tasks, supporting clinicians, and maintaining a clean, organised, and welcoming reception environment.


Job responsibilities

The Receptionist is responsible for providing a professional, efficient, and friendly reception and administrative service to patients, clinicians, and the wider practice team. The post holder will act as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring a welcoming environment whilst supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.

The role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to work effectively within a busy environment, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and delivering high standards of patient care and customer service at all times.

We are looking for individuals with a strong work ethic who are reliable, approachable, adaptable, and committed to providing excellent patient care and customer service. Qualifications

* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
* Previous experience working within a GP practice, NHS, or healthcare environment
* Experience using EMIS Web or other clinical systems
* Knowledge of NHS services, procedures, and medical terminology
* Previous reception, customer service, or administrative experience
* Experience handling confidential and sensitive information
* Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment and manage competing priorities
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsStrong organisational and time management skills
* Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and email systems
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
* Flexible and adaptable approach to work
* Experience dealing with members of the public in a professional and empathetic manner
* Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding, and information governance requirements
* Willingness to undertake training and continuous professional development
* Chaperone training or willingness to complete chaperone training
* Knowledge of appointment booking systems and telephone triage processes
* Positive attitude with a strong commitment to patient care and customer se


Experience

* Experience working within a customer service, reception, or administrative role
* Experience communicating effectively with members of the public both face to face and over the telephone
* Experience working within a busy environment and managing multiple tasks
* Experience using computer systems, email, and general IT software
* Previous experience working within a GP practice, NHS, or healthcare setting
* Experience using EMIS Web or other clinical systems
* Experience booking appointments and managing diaries or schedules
* Experience handling confidential or sensitive information
* Experience working as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment
* Experience dealing with difficult or sensitive situations professionally and calmly
* Experience undertaking general office and administrative duties such as filing, scanning, and photocopying
