Overview
We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic part-time Food and Nutrition Technician to join our team at Harris Academy Wimbledon (38 weeks per year, 20 hours per week).
The successful candidate will support the delivery of engaging and high-quality Food and Nutrition lessons by maintaining equipment, preparing materials, and ensuring a safe and well-organised learning environment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for food, nutrition and education to play a key role in supporting students' practical learning experiences and contributing to the success of our thriving department.
About Us
We are an ‘Outstanding' (Ofsted 2023) secondary academy, established in 2018 to provide an excellent education for children in Wimbledon. We moved into our brand-new building two years after opening, which is modern, bright and equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in every area of the curriculum. Main Areas of Responsibility
Your responsibilities will include:
* Preparing equipment and ingredients for lessons according to teacher specifications
* Advising students and staff on the safe and proper use of tools, equipment and practical activities
* Supporting students in preparing materials for independent practical work at KS4
* Assisting in practical lessons and providing technical support when required
* Maintaining, repairing and ensuring the safety of resources and equipment, reporting issues beyond scope
* Understanding subject syllabi and schemes of work to prepare effectively for practical lessons
* Managing stock levels, conducting regular stock checks and organising weekly ingredient orders
* Performing safety checks and complying with health, safety and hygiene regulations, including risk assessments
* Implementing health and safety procedures across the department
* Storing equipment and ingredients safely and maintaining good condition
* Disposing of hazardous food waste and recycling safely
* Cleaning and maintaining kitchen areas and equipment in line with manufacturer guidelines
* Keeping up to date with health, safety and hygiene regulations and developments in Food Technology
* Collaborating with technical staff to keep workspaces clean, tidy and safe
* Rotating ingredients using first-in, first-out method to ensure safe food storage
Qualifications & Experience
We would like to hear from you if you are passionate about supporting young people's learning and have a keen interest in food, nutrition and practical education. You should be organized, proactive, and able to work both independently and as part of a team to ensure lessons run smoothly and safely. If you have experience working in a school or food technology environment, enjoy hands-on work and take pride in maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety, we would love to hear from you.
