Overview
Axcis Education seeks a qualified or experienced HLTA to lead small classes and run small group catch-up or 1-1 sessions for secondary students who are disengaged, underachieving, or struggling in the classroom. You will work with EHCPs to create achievable, individual education plans. This is a full-time role starting in September, with a Monday–Friday schedule.
Responsibilities
* Lead small classes (8–10 per class) and deliver targeted support to pupils in need of additional help.
* Provide small group catch-up and 1-1 sessions to pupils who are disengaged or underachieving.
* Develop and implement individual education plans in collaboration with EHCPs.
* Support pupils with communication, speech and social, emotional needs.
* Assess and respond to pupil behaviour in the context of trauma, building honest, supportive relationships.
* Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns promptly.
About the School
The SEND school has primary and secondary divisions, teaching pupils aged 4–16. Pupils may have anxiety, trauma backgrounds, or require additional support due to gaps in education. Some pupils may have Autism, ADHD, Attachment Disorder, Global Delay or SEMH. Facilities include a state-of-the-art kitchen for cooking and a sensory room; outings to locations such as Haldon Forest and Dartmoor may occur with an external PE teacher. Parking in central Exeter can be difficult; walking, cycling or public transport are preferred.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Qualified or experienced HLTA with ability to lead small groups and support individual learners.
* Understanding of trauma-informed practice and ability to build positive, trust-based relationships.
* Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and ability to report concerns in line with policy.
* Ability to work Monday–Friday, 8:30–16:30, starting in September.
Pay and Location
Pay rate £120–£130 per day, paid weekly on Fridays. Location: Exeter area (central with limited parking).
