Job Overview
As a Quantity Surveyor specialising in high-level rope access and steeplejack works, you will play a crucial role in managing project costs, ensuring financial efficiency, and providing expert guidance throughout the lifecycle of each project. You will collaborate closely with Customers, Contract Managers, MD, and field teams to ensure that all works are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining high safety standards.
Key Job Responsibilities and Duties
1.Cost Estimation and Budgeting:
* Prepare accurate cost estimates for high-level access projects, including materials, labour, and overhead costs
* Develop and maintain project budgets, ensuring alignment with client expectations and financial objectives
* Attend site surveys. These could involve works away from home as Pendrich offers a national service.
2.Contract Administration:
* Review and assess contracts for steeplejack and rope access works, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
* Advise on procurement strategies and assist in the selection of subcontractors and suppliers.
3.Risk Assessment and Management:
* Identify potential risks associated with high-level access projects, including safety, environmental, and financial risks.
* Develop mitigation strategies to address identified risks and ensure continuous project viability.
Tendering and Bidding:
* Lead the preparation of tender documentation for high-level access projects.
* Evaluate and analyse subcontractor bids to recommend the selection of qualified personnel and suppliers.
Financial Reporting:
* Monitor and track project expenses against the budget, preparing regular financial reports for stakeholders.
* Provide insights on project performance and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
Collaboration and Communication:
* Work closely with Customers, Contracts Managers, site teams, and the MD to ensure effective communication and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
* Attend site meetings and contribute to discussions on project progress, challenges, and opportunities.
Quality Assurance:
* Ensure that all work is conducted in accordance with industry standards and client specifications, with a strong emphasis on safety and quality control.
Job Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
* Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, preferably in sectors such as high-rise buildings, tall structures, infrastructure projects and Steeplejack works would be beneficial for the role requiring niche expertise.
* Strong understanding of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost management.
* Experience with tendering processes and risk management
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
* Effective negotiation prowess when dealing contractors, suppliers and customers
* Proficiency in industry-standard software (e.g.MS Excel).
* Attention to detail, Precision is crucial in managing costs and assessing contract detail
Certifications:
* Membership or accreditation with a recognised professional body (e.g., RICS) is an advantage.
* Relevant safety certifications (e.g., IRATA, IOSH) are a plus.
* On-going professional development (CPD) – Ongoing education and training are essential to keep up with industry changes, new technologies and evolving best practices in quality surveying.
