Overview
The Trust is committed to the provision of a modern, high quality Consultant-led elderly care service and the successful candidate will work alongside the 4 Consultants that are currently in post. There are daily ward rounds with the expectation that every patient will have a daily senior medical review. Inpatient care is undertaken predominantly on wards 6A and 6B which are both mixed sex 28 bed wards.
This post will input into the inpatient wards, orthopaedic wards and the frailty service but the service is in constant evolution to meet the demands of the population. The frailty team work supporting the emergency department and assessment units and have a dedicated SDEC (Same day emergency care unit). The wider team provide general geriatric clinics as well as more specialised clinics such as falls and movement disorders.
Main duties of the job will be included below within responsibilities.
Responsibilities
* Provide in-patient and out-patient care in elderly and frail patients.
* Take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
* Participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care.
* Meet Royal College of Physicians standards with at least 25 hours of external education in geriatric medicine plus general medicine input.
* Participate in local mandatory training, yearly appraisal and revalidation.
* Contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development.
* Contribute to the development of clinical quality and effectiveness in other clinical areas where these overlap with developments in HCOP/frailty services.

Qualifications & Certification
Essential
* Current valid Full GMC registration with licence to practice
* MRCP or equivalent
* Advanced Life Support
* Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register in Geriatric medicine and General Internal Medicine via one of the following: - Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) - European Community Rights
Desirable
* Additional post-graduate qualification.
* Appropriate higher degree, e.g. an MD, PhD or equivalent
Clinical Experience
Essential
* Initiatives demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment to the assessment and care of older adults.
* Enthusiasm for the supervision and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff and other healthcare professionals
* Ability to manage a frailty and unselected general medical take
