Bioacoustics Support Officer
Thetford
Full time, Permanent
£28,887 per annum + 11% employer pension contribution

The Bioacoustics Support Officer will assist data management, processing and checking of audio data from BTO’s large-scale bioacoustics surveys in the UK and Europe. This will entail using software tools to generate automated identification of birds and other taxa in recordings and then following protocols for the manual verification of identities, helping to produce annotated datasets for classifier development, and the production of reports to stakeholders. Other duties may involve supporting external users of acoustic tools and assisting with acoustic fieldwork projects. The role sits in the Data Science & Bioacoustics team and runs and supports bioacoustics monitoring projects across the Science Department.

The successful applicant will have: a degree, or equivalent experience in biodiversity monitoring; excellent sound identification skills of UK bird species and an aptitude and willingness to learn sound identification of other species groups; highly developed, methodical and careful work practices when dealing with data preparation. You will work as part of a small team and have good interpersonal skills.

This position is based at our HQ in Thetford, Norfolk, although you will be able to work from home part of the time. We have a hybrid working policy which allows staff to work more flexibly and work from home 40% of the time and the office 60% of the time.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
£28,887 per annum
Annual leave entitlement on starting is 25 days plus bank holidays (pro rata if part time).
