Are you looking for a new challenge? Would you like to work with the latest technology whilst providing excellent patient care?

We are pleased to be offering the opportunity to current York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust employees (open to substantive and bank applicants) to undertake a Level 5 Assistant Practitioner (Radiology Pathway) apprenticeship.

This position will be based in the x-ray department at York Hospital. The apprentice assistant practitioner role will combine university training and on the job learning as part of a supportive team. You will be working alongside a qualified supervising radiographer training to undertake a range of x-ray examinations on patients who are non-complex in nature.

Apprenticeship overview

1. This is an exciting opportunity which will be delivered in partnership with Teesside University.

2. The Assistant Practitioner Apprenticeship is delivered over 2 years.

3. This is a contextualised programme delivering a Radiology pathway.

4. As part of the apprenticeship, you will study towards the level 5 Assistant Practitioner Foundation Degree.

5. Throughout the duration of your apprenticeship, you will be allocated 6hrs per week (as a minimum) during your working time to undertake off the job learning – this is also known as ‘protected learning time’. Usually this will be one day per week, off-site at the Teesside University Campus.

6. Apprentices will be supported throughout their studies by an Academic Tutor and Practice Mentor employed by the University, a departmental mentor and a Clinical Educator at the Trust.

7. Employed by the Trust, with a minimum of 6 months in post, before the start of the apprenticeship in September 2026.
8. Maths and English at GCSE A-C/4-9 or Functional Skills Level 2 (proof of certification will be required) or ENIC UK/NARIC confirmation of comparability. If you have any other English and Maths qualifications, please contact prior to applying.
9. Evidence of achievement of Level 3 qualification A Level, BTEC, Level 3 NVQ, Level 3 Apprenticeship
10. Proof of evidence of achievement of Maths, English and relevant qualifications will be required; please contact if you require advice regarding obtaining replacement certificates prior to applying.
11. Please note there may be a requirement to undertake literacy and numeracy matriculation tests as part of the Teesside University recruitment process.
