Aberlour Sycamore Services' vision is to provide warm, loving homes for children where everyone learns, laughs,grows into their future and is treasured always. Sycamore services are widely recognised in Scotland forproviding a range of quality therapeutic residential houses for some of the most vulnerable children and youngpeople in the country. The Service is a national resource and as such receives referrals from throughoutScotland.

What we are looking for....

We are looking for people to join our relief pool who are passionate about supporting children and young people. Thechildren and young people who live in our houses have experienced significant trauma in their young lives andour aim is to create loving, nurturing family homes where they feel safe and cared for.

Our relief workers play a crucial role in supporting our teams. This work is offered on a casual, hourly paid basisto provide cover during staff absence and/or particularly busy periods.

Members of our relief pool have a varied range of backgrounds and often work in different areas of the workforce.Although experience in child-care is ideal, we would also like to hear from people who may have skills fromtheir work experience in different sectors which would be transferrable and provide a good basis from which tolearn and develop their skills, utilising the range of training we provide.

At Aberlour we listen to understand what our young people want and need within our local area. As such, our servicein Glenrothes supports young people with learning disabilities and/or autism to live and thrive within the localcommunity.

Our service is home to 3 young people, aged 14 plus. Our rota has been drafted to suit the needs of the young people.Our night shifts operate from 10pm to 8am. You will work a rolling rota consisting of 3 to 4 nights percontracted hours. More details can be discussed at interview.

What we are looking for....

As a Young People’s Worker, you will play a fundamental role in our young people’s lives to ensure that they get thebest possible experience whilst working towards goals in their care plan. Using a person-centred approach, youwill provide enabling support ensuring the highest level of physical and emotional care, supporting our youngpeople in their daily living and within the local community.

If you have an interest in working with young people, we would like to hear from you. Ideally, candidates will havesocial care experience, an understanding of autism, complex needs and disability. You will hold, or be willingto work towards, a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (for example: SVQ 3 SocialServices (Children and Young People) plus an HNC) together with relevant experience of working with children oryoung people. You must also be able to demonstrate awareness of the key elements of working with people affectedby disability as well as an understanding of, and commitment to, young people’s rights.

About Options Moray

Aberlour Options Moray is a community-based service for children/young people with learning disabilities offeringresidential, short breaks, family-based care and community support matched with the individual needs of everyyoung person.

What we are looking for....

We have an opening for a Young People’s Worker, to work 35 hours per week on a permanent basis. The team work no morethan 4 days before a day off and currently have every second weekend off. Rotas are designed around the needs ofthe young people we care for and ensuring the wellness of the practitioners we employ. Late shifts are 2pm to10pm. Early shifts are 7.30am to 2.30pm. Overnight sleep ins are part of the role, alongside an awake member ofnight staff. Shifts can be subject to change as and when required for the needs of the service.

Individuals need to bring a range of qualities to the role including being playful, warm and accepting and must beable to adapt their practice to appropriately meet the varying individual needs of each young person. This rolecan be challenging but is also immensely rewarding and provides postholders with rich opportunities to developtheir own practice and understanding of the needs of children and young people with disabilities.

You must be comfortable working in a culture based on respect, integrity, innovation and the ability to challenge –both yourself and other people. We support our staff to be as effective as they can be through dedicatedtraining and supervision. In return our staff act as exceptional role models supporting the children and youngpeople, as well as sharing knowledge and learning with colleagues.

Ideally, you will have a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above, or be willing to work to thisrequirement as per SSSC registration.

About Aberlour’s Mother and Child Recovery House

Aberlour is proud to be working in partnership with the Scottish Government to provide a dedicated Mother and ChildRecovery House based in central Falkirk. Our service is designed to enable children of women with problemalcohol or other drug use to stay with their mothers during recovery. Aberlour’s approach to rehabilitation aimsto deliver positive outcomes for women and their children. The house will accommodate up to 4 women with theirchildren under 5 years old.

We are supporting families using the Parents Under Pressure (PuP) program which combines psychological principlesrelating to parenting, child behaviour and parental emotion regulation within a case management model. Theprogram is highly individualized to suit each family. Parents are given their own Parent Workbook. For manyparents, this becomes a personal journal of their treatment experience. The overarching aim of the PuP programis to help parents facing adversity develop positive and secure relationships with their children. Within thisstrength-based approach, the family environment becomes more nurturing and less conflictual.

What we are looking for....

We are looking to recruit 2 Family Support Worker (Nights) to be part of trauma responsive team delivering andimplementing residential recovery support for women and their children (0-5 years) to help them reach theiraspirations. If you share our vision and values and have the passion and ability to work as part of this newtherapeutic team, we would love to hear from you.

You will work 20 hours per week during the night as part of a residential rota.

Ideally you will have experience of direct work with mothers in recovery, enhancing their skills and capacity forthem and their babies. You must also have experience of working collaboratively with other professional agenciesand a working knowledge of drug/alcohol use and its effects on women and children.

Applicants should hold a relevant professional qualification at least SCQF level 7 or equivalent knowledge acquiredby other means with a willingness to obtain the required qualifications for SSSC Registration.

We strongly encourage people to apply who have lived experience of alcohol or drug use, with a minimum of 2 yearsliving in recovery, free from all drug use and problem drinking. People with lived experience will providecrucial insight into the issues being faced by women and children.
