Band 7 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist - Rheumatology role at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Substantive | 30 hours per week.
Join our forward thinking, committed and driven Integrated Therapies and Dietetics Department, which puts patient care and your professional and personal development at the forefront. We are looking for a positive, proactive clinician with specialist skills in Rheumatology to help us build a strong future for therapy and raise the profile of Occupational Therapy within this specialty. You will have your own outpatient clinical caseload, providing advanced specialist assessments and interventions to patients with rheumatological conditions. You will also provide clinical supervision to students and assist in their training and development. You will play an integral role in service development and work closely with Professional Leads for Occupational Therapy to promote and improve the service. We are an integrated department with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, dietitians and assistants, and we have positive relationships across disciplines and teams. Core hours are 8.00am–4.00pm but we can be flexible. Onsite parking/car shares are available, and a driving licence is essential.
Responsibilities
* Maintain your own complex outpatient caseload consisting of patients with a range of rheumatological conditions.
* Balance clinical and non-clinical duties with good prioritisation, organisational and time management skills.
* Use advanced assessment skills to identify appropriate patients and to formulate, implement and evaluate individualised treatment and rehabilitation plans (some specialist in nature).
* Demonstrate advanced communication skills to enable a successful multidisciplinary approach to patient care and regular discussions with patients, carers, JPUH colleagues and community partners on therapy plans.
* Provide training and supervision of students, department in-service training and training for other professionals.
* Participate in measurement and evaluation of practice through evidence-based practice projects, audits and outcome measures, and make recommendations for change.
Qualifications and Skills
* Specialist skills in Rheumatology and a positive, proactive approach to patient care.
* Ability to manage a complex outpatient caseload with advanced analytical and clinical reasoning skills.
* Advanced communication skills for effective MDT collaboration.
* Experience in supervising students and contributing to education and professional development.
* Ability to engage in research, audits and use of evidence-based practice to inform care and service development.
About the department and development
Integrated Therapies and Dietetics Department includes occupational therapy, physiotherapy, dietetics and assistants, with positive relationships across disciplines. Core hours are 8.00am–4.00pm with some flexibility. Onsite parking/car shares are available and a driving licence is essential. The Trust supports development through supervision, appraisal and CPD funding, with access to clinical, non-clinical and leadership training. We encourage education across the workforce and have links with CSP, RCOT, BOA and BGS. We are developing our research and innovation strategy in line with the national AHP Strategy. We support the university links with University of East Anglia, Suffolk College and City College Norwich for teaching and placements.
