About the Role :
Multiple positions available. These roles are suitable for students studying Allied Health related courses.
The Support Worker at Guide Dogs Victoria plays a crucial role in assisting therapists in delivering structured programs and providing comprehensive support to clients. This role involves working alongside allied health professionals to facilitate skill-building and ensure the well-being of clients, particularly during their stay in our residential facility.
* Provide support to clients in the absence of therapists, addressing their needs and ensuring their comfort and safety.
* Work with a diverse range of clients to support inclusion during service delivery.
* Actively support clients during their downtime from therapy by engaging in conversation or leisure activities.
* Follow all safety and health regulations, including industry standard infection control guidelines and practices.
* Support Guide Dog Handlers in caring for their dogs as needed, e.g., toileting.
* Manage work practices within your area of responsibility to comply with relevant legislative requirements, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Overnight Support :
* Assist clients during their overnight stay in our residential facility, ensuring a safe and supportive environment throughout their stay.
* Provide guests with a welcoming arrival, induction to the accommodation, initial orientation, and support their engagement with other residents.
* Assist practitioners with after-hours and emergency situations by making logical and calculated decisions to ensure participant and staff safety.
* Support mealtime activities, including plating, warming, and serving meals to clients staying in the residential facility.
* Support client needs that may arise throughout the night.
About You :
* Proven experience in support work or allied health assistance.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Professional approach and presentation.
* Demonstrates confidentiality and awareness of diversity.
* Flexible: adapts to changing circumstances, prioritises work, and addresses what is important.
* Effective time management and organizational skills.
* Exhibits active listening, empathy, social awareness, and emotional intelligence in communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
* Committed to living the Values and Behaviours of Guide Dogs Victoria.
* Willingness to work overnight shifts as required.
* Possession of a satisfactory background check, including an NDIS Worker Screening and Working With Children's Check.
