Projects: £50m – £250m New Build Schemes
Salary: £95,000 – £125,000 + package (car allowance, healthcare, bonus)
A leading UK main contractor is seeking an experienced Head of Planning to oversee the planning function across major construction projects ranging from £50m to £250m. This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving programme excellence, ensuring robust planning governance, and supporting project delivery teams with high-quality programme management.
This opportunity would suit someone who has a proven track record delivering major projects, excellent technical capability in Primavera P6, and the leadership presence to manage planners across multiple schemes.
The Role
* Lead the planning function across a portfolio of complex new-build projects.
* Develop, review and challenge fully-logic-linked programmes using P6.
* Work closely with Project Directors, Construction Managers and Commercial teams to build robust, realistic and fully compliant programmes.
* Oversee short-term and long-term planning, risk analysis, and recovery programme development.
* Ensure consistent planning standards, governance and reporting across the business.
* Provide leadership, mentoring and development to the wider planning team.
* Interface with clients, stakeholders and supply chain partners on programme strategy and progress.
* Support tendering activities with competitive and technically strong bid programmes.
About You
* Significant experience in a senior planning role within main contracting.
* Strong track record working on large-scale projects between £50m–£250m.
* Expert user of Primavera P6.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and challenge project teams.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
* Able to operate strategically while still delivering hands-on programme support when required.
Salary Expectation
For a Head of Planning in Hertfordshire/Chorleywood within a Tier 1/Tier 2 contractor delivering £50m–£250m schemes, the market rate is typically:
* £95,000 – £125,000 base salary
* + car allowance
* + pension / healthcare
* + discretionary bonus
Senior candidates from major contractors with significant portfolio responsibility may command the upper end.
