The Curriculum Area of Performing Arts provision is part of the Creative Industries, Sport, Technology and Engineering Curriculum Area and sits within the Llanelli Directorate operated from the Graig Campus. Its dynamic area offers a diverse range of courses from Level 1 through to Level 6. It is also responsible for running the highly acclaimed Sports Academy and Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
As part of the 'Creative Industries' department, Performing Arts run vibrant programmes for their learners, providing them with a clear understanding of the sector, enabling them to progress into employment and/or higher education which also includes vocational dance or drama college. They offer courses at Level 2 through to Level 3 and have strong links with industry specialists, who visit as guest speakers and run workshop sessions. The department emphasises the development of creative skills as an integral element of provision, and offers Skills Academy sessions to all learners in the area.
This post will also work closely with our Music Performance & Production and Creative Media Departments. The aim is to promote creative collaborations to enhance learner's experiences, and develop a regional reputation for excellence in the delivery of creative industries. We are moving forward into an era that has many opportunities within UWTSD, 'Yr Egin' development and the move of S4C and other tenants to the iconic building. This has provided us with new collaboration opportunities with local and National industry as well as working in response to government priorities in order to develop the curriculum with the introduction of WBL to the area.
All learners undertake a Literacy or Numeracy Skills pathways along-side their main qualification together with a strong pastoral tutorial programme.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake the teaching and assessment of Performing Arts/Dance/Singing for Level 2 and 3
* Undertake the LAP leader role for Level 2 Performing Arts if required
* Lead and direct an appropriate range of productions
* Undertake the teaching, assessment and co-ordination of the Welsh Baccalaureate and/or Essential Skills Wales
* Deliver and promote Skills development and work to produce successful candidates to apply to Higher Education and Vocational School/ colleges
* Actively work to develop recruitment through the creation of projects and engagement with local schools whilst promoting internal and external marketing opportunities
* Actively seek creative collaboration opportunities between creative industry departments and external providers
* Actively create and promote a diverse programme of activities that include masterclasses/workshops and visits to enhance the learners' experiences
* Liaise with creative industries colleagues, managers and directors to ensure an effective learner experience and successful outcome
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Criteria:
* Degree or equivalent qualification
* Teaching qualification (If you are not in possession of a teaching qualification as at the date of employment, you will be required to obtain a PGCE within 2 years of this date)
* GCSE English at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
* GCSE Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent
* Documented evidence of appropriate Professional Development
* Good literacy/numeracy/digital literacy skills
* Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
* Ability to work harmoniously with learners and colleagues
* Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
* Excellent punctuality and ability to work flexibly
Desirable Criteria:
* Relevant teaching experience
* A good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education
* A proven track record of high levels of learner attainment
* Awareness of key performance indicators
* Evidence of innovative teaching and learning activities
* Evidence of effective tracking and monitoring of learner performance
* Experience of actively participating in the pastoral care of young people
