Scientist II – Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL)
Purpose
At RSSL we lead the way in scientific analysis, research, consultancy, and training. This Scientist II role will support our Speciality Pharmaceutical laboratory by performing routine and investigative chromatography analyses, supervising junior staff, and managing client projects.
Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality customer service by organising workload, ensuring data integrity, and delivering timely, accurate results.
* Perform routine and investigative chromatographic analyses of pharmaceutical raw materials and products, including method verification.
* Assist with method optimisation and design verification protocols; maintain chromatography systems and approve suppliers’ reports.
* Contribute to technical aspects of client proposals, including troubleshooting and reporting on openlab and OIRR.
* Train and supervise junior staff in routine activities and methods; plan workload and routine projects for the team.
* Communicate with clients, business development, and line management to ensure effective project proposals and results.
* Participate in client and stakeholder meetings, deliver presentations, and manage small projects or defined areas of larger projects.
* Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards: COSHH, risk assessments, SOPs, GMP, UKAS; complete quality actions and maintain documentation.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Language Requirements
* Degree or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent laboratory experience.
* Solid understanding of laboratory equipment and chromatography techniques.
* Ability to conduct independent chemical analyses and interpret results.
* Strong organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple activities concurrently.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to interact with clients and colleagues.
* Computer literacy in standard MS Office applications and experience with chromatography software.
* Experience working in a regulated environment (e.g., GMP, UKAS).
* English fluency (spoken and written).
