This role provides hybrid working options (home or County Hall, Taunton) and may require some travel within the local area for meetings, site visits and community engagement activities.


What will I be doing?

We’re working to improve the lives of young people in Somerset — and you’ll be a key part of that. The Work Experience Enterprise Co-ordinator (WEC), also known as Project & Change Manager, is a new role that sits at the heart of the local network to help schools and colleges improve their careers and enterprise programmes, and to engage with the world of work.

You will focus on supporting the schools and network in readying the system to achieve the government’s work experience guarantee proposal. You will be part of the careers hub, the Careers and Pathways team that sits in the curriculum and training team at Somerset Council.

This role involves collaborating with schools, colleges, businesses and community organisations to deliver high quality careers and enterprise education; specifically work experience. You will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring that career programmes and initiatives meet the needs of young people and the local economy. This requires a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement, policy development, and continuous improvement of careers services. You will also monitor and evaluate the impact of careers initiatives, using data to inform ongoing improvements.

Your day-to-day work will involve:

* Working with a cohort of 15+ schools focusing on Work Experience, building and maintaining effective relationships with senior leaders within that caseload.
* Ensuring that a variety of cohorts from the target schools engage in multiple experiences during the academic year 25/26 and tracking progress of those schools and colleges, identifying trends, gaps and solutions.
* Acting as an ambassador for The Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC) including raising the profile of the Network through communication and marketing channels to engage with key local stakeholders, including attending CEC national and local training events and meetings.
* Testing methods with Middle and Upper schools to ensure that Equalex and work experience guarantee can be met.
* Testing methods with Middle schools around work experience at KS3 that can be replicated at a local and national level.
* Supporting several SEND, ISEND and PRU schools to test Equalex and Work Experience guarantee with some of our most disadvantaged cohorts that can be replicated at a local and national level.


What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:

* A recognised project management qualification e.g. PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM PMQ, or equivalent.
* A qualification in change management e.g. Prosci, APMG Change Management.
* A Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline such as Business, Management or Public Administration.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
* The ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams to achieve shared goals.
* A thorough understanding of Project management methodologies, change management principles and of local government structures, services and challenges.
