The Role:
We’re looking for an experienced and proactive EHS Specialist to join our team. This key role is focused on protecting the health and safety of our people, ensuring environmental compliance, and supporting our commitment to operational excellence.
You’ll work closely with the Health & Safety Manager and Quality & Environment Manager to drive compliance with UK regulations, maintain ISO standards, and foster a strong, proactive safety culture. This is a hands-on role where you’ll engage with employees on the shop floor, lead investigations, and champion continuous improvement across health, safety, and environmental performance.
Responsibilities
* Provide strong leadership for all manufacturing activities, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations around the clock.
* Champion compliance with COMAH, EHS, and regulatory requirements, embedding a safety-first culture.
* Deliver the manufacturing plan in accordance with SOPs and customer requirements.
* Work closely with maintenance teams to ensure equipment readiness and minimise downtime.
* Lead incident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
* Manage budgets, actively identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
* Drive site-wide continuous improvement and apply lean manufacturing principles to optimise processes.
* Coach, mentor, and develop employees, building skills and engagement across operations.
* Report manufacturing performance and key metrics to the Site Director and wider leadership team.
Creating Extraordinary Starts With:
* Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
* 5+ years’ experience managing operations within chemical or process manufacturing.
* Proven experience leading teams in a chemical manufacturing or high-hazard environment.
* Strong track record on an Upper Tier COMAH site or equivalent high-hazard facility.
* Excellent communication skills, able to engage and motivate employees at all levels.
* Ability to provide steady, decisive leadership during challenging or emergency situations.
* Skilled at setting clear objectives and aligning operations with site and business strategy.
* Strong analytical skills focused on implementing sustainable, long-term solutions.
* Experience driving measurable improvements in safety, reliability, and cost performance.
* Deep understanding of EHS and COMAH requirements for Upper Tier sites.
* Demonstrated success embedding lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Proven ability to deliver against safety, quality, and cost targets in a 24/7, 365-day manufacturing environment.
