AECOM’s thriving Streets team, part of our Transportation Business Line, is seeking an enthusiastic Senior Engineer to join our team in Birmingham.

The team is growing to cater for an increased workload, particularly in Active Travel, Bus Priority, Highway Improvement and Infrastructure schemes. We provide concept, preliminary and detailed designs, community engagement, project delivery and construction management services on a wide range of multi-disciplinary transportation and traffic engineering schemes.
We are a dedicated team, recognised as market leaders in the transportation sector, actively involved in the delivery of small to large high profile and impactful projects for a range of both local and national clients.
Here’s what you’ll do:
You will be ready to take the next step in your career, providing design and technical input on a wide range of projects. You will take a leading role in the development of Active Travel and traffic engineering schemes, from concept through to detailed design and implementation. You will manage technical outputs, mentor junior staff, and ensure the successful delivery of high-quality, sustainable transport solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the design and delivery of Road, Traffic Engineering, Active Travel, and urban realm schemes.
2. Prepare and review technical outputs including drawings, reports, and specifications.
3. Ensure all work meets project briefs, design standards, and regulatory requirements.
4. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across AECOM and external stakeholders.
5. Delegate and coordinate tasks for graduates and technicians, supporting their development.
6. Manage project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
7. Champion Health & Safety best practices, including CDM responsibilities.
8. Report regularly to the Project Manager on progress and risks

Qualifications
Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?
Here’s what we’re looking for:
17. A confident and capable engineer with a strong background in Roads, Active, Traffic Engineering, Walking, Cycling, Bus priority, and Traffic calming.
18. Experience in scoping, preliminary, and detailed design of Roads, Active Travel and Traffic Engineering schemes.
19. Strong knowledge of design elements such as drainage, junctions, and carriageway improvements.
20. Familiarity with relevant design standards including TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, MCHW, LTN 1/20, and the CDM Regulations).
Preferred Skills and Experience
21. A relevant degree and be working towards, Chartered status with a recognised Professional Institution or have equivalent industry experience.
