NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership-Specialist Estates Services (NWSSP-SES) is committed to championing patient centred and sustainable healthcare environments. We achieve this by providing a range of professional and technical estates services for NHS Wales and policy advice for the Welsh Government’s (WG) Department for Health and Social Services.
As a Senior Decontamination Engineer within NWSSP-SES, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding patient safety across NHS Wales. Working as a senior member of the dedicated Decontamination team, you will act as a trusted source of specialist technical expertise on systems and processes related to the decontamination of reusable medical devices.
You will provide authoritative professional advice to NHS organisations across Wales, ensuring that decontamination practices meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. In addition, you will work in collaboration with the Principal Decontamination Engineer in leading the team, delivering on service-level agreements, and fulfilling commitments to NHS Wales and the Welsh Government.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced decontamination engineer to influence national practice, contribute to service improvement, and support the continued delivery of safe healthcare services across Wales.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Decontamination Engineer (SDE) is one of the principal sources of advice and guidance for the NHS in Wales on medical device decontamination systems, providing expert specialist and professional advice within this field. A core duty of the Senior Decontamination Engineer is to discharge the duties of the Authorised Engineer Decontamination AE (D) for NHS in Wales in line with the Welsh Health Technical Memorandum (WHTM) 00 and 01/01 - Decontamination of Medical Devices with Acute Services suite of documents.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree with honours in engineering or technology and be a Chartered member of a recognised Institution in an appropriate discipline or have sufficient engineering knowledge, experience and understanding equivalent to Master level learning.
* Must be a member of a relevant professional institution.
* Is required to have extensive technical knowledge of specialist decontamination principles and associated engineering.
* Be a registered Authorising Engineer for Decontamination.
Experience
* Must have at considerable experience in the medical device decontamination field including the validation of sterilizers and washer/disinfectors together with the requirements for all types of endoscopy reprocessing procedures.
* Must have at considerable experience in the ancillary services associated with decontamination principles to include steam, ventilation, water and other relevant engineering services.
* Understanding of the complex nature of the NHS environment.
* Knowledge and experience of auditing and the audit process
Skills and Attributes
* The ability to co-ordinate and manage the activity of a team.
* Capable of working within a team environment and on own initiative when required.
