Education Personnel are pleased to be recruiting an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant on behalf of a primary school in Newark-on-Trent. This is a full-time, ongoing position starting in January, supporting pupils with autism and complex, challenging SEN.
The school offers a structured and inclusive learning environment with a strong focus on consistency, positive behaviour support, and personalised provision. Staff work closely together to ensure pupils feel safe, supported, and able to make meaningful progress.
The role:
The successful candidate will work closely with the SENCO, who will be responsible for planning and individual provision. You will be expected to confidently deliver and implement these plans, adapting activities where needed to meet pupils’ needs. On occasion, you may be required to lead the class, maintaining routines, engagement, and positive behaviour in line with the school’s expectations.
This role is ideal for a confident and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant with strong experience supporting pupils with autism and challenging behaviour.
Key responsibilities:

Supporting pupils with autism and complex SEN, both 1:1 and in small groups
*
Delivering learning activities and interventions planned by the SENCO
*
Adapting resources and approaches to support individual learning needs
*
Leading the class when required, following agreed plans and routines
*
Supporting emotional regulation, communication, and social development
*
Implementing behaviour support strategies consistently
*
Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals
*
Promoting inclusion, wellbeing, and safeguarding
Desirable but non essential criteria:
*
Level 3 or 4 Teaching Assistant or equivalent qualification (highly desirable)
*
Proven experience supporting pupils with autism and challenging behaviour
*
Confidence managing behaviour and maintaining structure
*
Ability to deliver learning independently using pre-planned work
*
Calm, patient, and resilient approach
*
Strong communication and teamwork skills
