About the Role
As an Outdoor Activity Supervisor, you will play a key role in the safe, effective and inspiring operation of our outdoor activity facilities, including the aerial tower, water bodies and extensive activity zones. You will:
1. Supervise and support the delivery of our outdoor multi‑activity programmes
2. Lead on either staff training and deployment, equipment and maintenance or activity systems and risk management
3. Prepare and deliver the annual training plan for part‑time instructors and maintain up‑to‑date competence records
4. Coordinate, record and undertake statutory inspections, equipment testing, risk assessments and safety documentation
5. Mentor students undertaking placements and support the development of their employability skills
6. Support commercial bookings, events and community engagement initiatives
7. Contribute to a positive, collaborative working culture across Lakeside Campus and the wider University
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in an outdoor environment, enjoys developing people, and can work calmly and confidently under pressure.
What We’re Looking For
We would welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate:
8. A relevant outdoor activity qualification or degree, with at least three years’ comparable industry experience
9. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage daily operations, events and staffing rotas effectively
10. Experience supervising activity staff or facilitators in a safe, structured environment
11. Applied knowledge of Health & Safety, safeguarding, risk management and industry compliance
12. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
13. Confidence responding to incidents, emergencies and operational challenges
14. Strong IT skills, particularly using Microsoft systems and digital booking or rota tools
Desirable criteria include higher‑level outdoor qualifications, a clean driving licence and/or additional Health & Safety certifications.
