Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, qualified teacher to join our team of Specialist Teachers with expertise in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

We wish to appoint a committed part- time teacher for Multi-Sensory Impairment to join us to work throughout Buckinghamshire to support children and young people at home, in early years, mainstream, special schools and post-16 from 0-25 years.

As part of the Specialist Teaching Team, you will play an important role in promoting the inclusion of pupils with a multi-sensory impairment across the county. You will work alongside colleagues from the Hearing Support and Vision Impairment teams. The primary objective is to ensure the effective delivery of both statutory and SEND support services for children and young people with SEND and their families throughout the county.

This is a part time role working 26 hours per week.

About the role

Buckinghamshire SEND Service delivers a range of services to support leadership, management and improved outcomes for children and young people as well as schools and early years settings across Buckinghamshire and beyond.

The Specialist Teachers work with settings to promote the inclusion and progress of children and young people with SEND to help them achieve the best possible outcomes and enable everyone working with these pupils to clearly understand their strengths and differences.

The MSI Specialist Teacher offer support and advice regarding strategies and interventions needed for pupils to access the curriculum. You will join a supportive team of Specialist Teachers and work alongside Education Health and Care plan Coordinators (EHCCos) and Educational Psychologists as part of the wider SEND team.

The role will involve:

1. Being part of a team of Specialist Teachers to ensure the effective delivery of SEND Support and statutory services to children, young people and their families.
2. Complying with statutory regulations in the assessment and review of Education, Health & Care Plans (EHC Plans) in accordance with the Children & Families Act 2014
3. Supporting the strategic development of the Specialist Teachers within the SEND Service.
4. Taking responsibility and being accountable for a caseload as required across the geographical area, ensuring that any casework is undertaken professionally, and decisions are taken in a timely manner.
5. Working closely with other Specialist Teachers and professionals in your settings.
6. Providing schools with written advice following school visits, including up-to-date, practical strategies for pupils with SEND.
7. Co-producing and delivering training on various SEND topics to schools/setting staff and other professionals within the SEND Service.
8. Attending annual review meetings for caseload pupils and other multi-professional meetings.
9. Working collaboratively with SEND colleagues. including Education Health and Care Plan Coordinators (EHCCos), Educational Psychologists, Social Care and Health professionals, parents and carers, ensuring a strong and effective culture of collaboration.
10. Promoting the inclusion of children with SEND.
11. Embedding a culture of co-production and teamwork at all levels.
12. Ensuring services provided are child-centred and needs-led.
13. Proactively developing professional knowledge, skills and behaviours that support others in their continuous professional development.

About you

14. Be educated to degree standard with Qualified Teacher Status.
15. Have significant relevant teaching experience post NQT/ECT.
16. You will be a qualified teacher for Multi-Sensory Impairment or have a HI or VI qualification and be prepared to complete the mandatory MSI training which would be funded by the service.
17. The role is peripatetic and requires a current, valid driving licence and access to a vehicle as the job involves travel to multiple schools during the working week. Travel expenses will be paid. This is a countywide role.
18. Experience of working with children and young people with SEND and their families.
19. Have relevant experience including a proven track record of classroom teaching.
20. Evidence of further training in Sensory Needs and SEND.
21. Be confident in providing information to schools.
22. Be confident in researching, developing and delivering training material.
23. Show excellent IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, to produce reports and EHCP updates to a professional standard.
24. Be prepared to continue professional development by attending training, collaborating with peers and initiating independent research.
