Band 7 Pre-Treatment Radiotherapy Radiographer

We are looking to employ a Full Time Band 7 Pre Treatment Radiotherapy Radiographer who has significant current experience of Pre-Treatment at a Band 6 level or above.

The successful candidate will need to make evidence based decisions within the prescribed scope of practice and demonstrate analysis and approval of planning and treatment verification images, following designated training and adhering to work instructions and protocols.

They will show the ability to demonstrate knowledge of pre- treatment equipment and technology, complex techniques, and issues of patient care commensurate with the grade of the position.

The post holder needs to demonstrate evidence of developing staff by training and delegation. Together with the ability to manage, lead and motivate groups of staff effectively.

The post holder will require a thorough and detailed knowledge of principles and concepts underpinning the broad range of applications and techniques used in radiotherapy.

This role requires HCPC Registration.

Rota: Four days between Monday and Friday 07.45-17.37 with a rolling day off each week

Base Location: Poole Hospital

Interview Date: 13th November 2025


Main duties of the job

To take responsibility of the daily management of the pre-treatment radiotherapy section and to assist in the operational management of a specialist highly complex pre-treatment radiotherapy work base and supervising the radiotherapy team.

The post-holder will support the continuity of patient flow throughout all aspects of the pre-treatment pathway from mould room to multimodality imaging and virtual simulation.

They will be working within a computerised and technologically advanced environment covering a wide range of specialist pre-treatment techniques such as contrast administration and motion management imaging, whilst facilitating the development and integration of skills and competencies available within the team.

Liaison and collaboration with medical, physics, radiology and nuclear medicine, nursing, clerical and support staff within the Trust, as well as educational partners.

To support the Head of Service in developing and advancing the service offered by the department through resource management and protocol and technique development.

Person Specification


Qualification

* BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy
* HCPC Registration
* MSc qualification relevant to pre-treatment. OR PGCert with Radiotherapy planning element / Imaging / leadership. OR minimum of 5 years current pre-treatment experience.
* Cannulation Trained
* MSc or equivalent which would support role and department
* Leadership qualification such BTEc, or apprenticeship or attendance of internal training programme.


Experience

* Current experience of at least 12 months in pre-treatment at a senior radiographer level.
* Ability to demonstrate knowledge of pre- treatment equipment and technology, complex techniques, and issues of patient care commensurate with the grade of the position
* Significant experience of working with whole range of radiotherapy techniques and equipment
* Evidence of developing staff by training and delegation.
* Ability to manage groups of staff effectively
* Participation in planning in a range of specialised techniques
* Previous demonstrable participation in research and/or audit.
* Evidence of multi-disciplinary team working


Skills

* Ability to lead, motivate and manage team members
* Ability to perform technically advanced procedures
* Proven track record in training developing and accessing students and radiographers
* Ability to convey highly complex instructions, ideas, and opinions clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
* Participation in quality assurance and clinical audit.


Personal Qualities

* Evidence of high quality patient care.
* Excellent interpersonal skills with all members of the multidisciplinary team
* Advanced IT and keyboard skills required.
* Ability to make decisions based on experience and judgment on sometimes complex issues.
* Highly self-motivated.
* Flexible in their attitudes and behaviour's to support team working and delivery of objectives


Knowledge

* A thorough and detailed knowledge of principles and concepts underpinning the broad range of applications and techniques used in radiotherapy
* Knowledge and understanding of current oncology issues.
* Excellent clinical and judgement skills to be able to analyse and make professional judgements on diagnostic and CT planning images. To include reviewing patients and their conditions and symptoms to assess suitability for planning, and treatment. To analyse the radiotherapy referral compared and relate to patient's physical condition.
