Job Summary Applications are invited for a fixed‑term Consultant Radiologist post with a specialist interest in Musculoskeletal Imaging. This opportunity is for a candidate with dedicated training in Musculoskeletal Imaging to join an expanding team of Consultant Radiologists at a large multi‑site acute NHS Trust.
Responsibilities
General elective and acute (hot) reporting
General and subspecialty ultrasound lists
Sub‑specialty musculoskeletal reporting
Supervision of radiology trainees, extended scope radiographers, sonographers and undergraduate students
Participation in multidisciplinary meetings (MDMs) with Rheumatology and Trauma & Orthopaedics teams
Participation in diagnostic on‑call service, including general on‑call rota for the base site
Teaching and educational supervision for the radiology training scheme and post‑graduate teaching programmes (e.g., Masters in Radiology)
Support clinical teaching and educational supervision within the University Hospitals Sussex Radiology departments
Engagement in research, audit, and quality improvement activities
Contribution to service planning and delivery, including job‑plan setting and annual review
Manage clinical workload, including home reporting (up to 2 PAs per week) and acute general sessions (hot reporting and acute ultrasound)
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
Basic medical degree (MBBS/MBChB/MD)
FRCR or recognised equivalent
Full and specialist registration with the GMC or eligibility for registration within six months of interview
Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Radiology, or evidence of equivalent completion within six months of interview
Broad experience of general acute diagnostic imaging (including trauma CT) and general outpatient imaging
Good cross‑sectional skills in body and emergency imaging
Dedicated musculoskeletal radiology training, with experience of sub‑specialty MSK reporting (US and MRI)
Experience of MSK interventions, including image‑guided injections and fluoroscopy
Experience leading multidisciplinary discussions and participating in MDMs
Strong teaching skills and commitment to clinical teaching and educational supervision
Evidence of participation in audit and research; research experience and publications preferred but not essential
Evidence of organisational and planning skills, including experience of working in multi‑professional teams
Good communication skills, both oral and written
Undergoing a Disclosure and Barring Service check in line with Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975
Knowledge of NHS/clinical governance and resource constraints
Evidence of managerial skills or achievements, including courses attended (desirable)
Experience in paediatric radiology not required but desirable
Designation as a Disability Confident Employer (Level 3) and a Veteran Aware Trust
