Position: Salaried General Practitioner (with a view to becoming a Practice Lead GP)

Employer: North Staffordshire GP Federation

Location: Meir Park Surgery / Meir Primary Care Centre

Hours of work: 6 sessions

Salary: £11605 per session, subject to review

Main duties / Responsibilities

* To perform as an autonomous general practitioner working independently and with other health care professionals to assess, diagnose and treat the conditions of patients attending within a primary care setting.
* Provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues and ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence.
* To be involved in the provision of education and training to GP Registrars and other staff.
* To be professionally accountable and responsible for all elements of clinical practice in accordance with the GMC code of conduct ensuring the safety of patients and quality of their care is primary.

In addition, the post holder will undertake duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, home visits, signing/authorising repeat prescriptions, handling queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion; make autonomous decisions on presenting problems; assess health care needs; screen disease risk factors; develop care plans; provide counselling and health education; admit or discharge patients and refer as appropriate; record notes; collect data for audit; issue computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions; prescribe in accordance with the practice formulary; visit patients during surgery or emergencies as clinically indicated; participate in On Call and home visiting sessions as allocated on the rota.


About Us

North Staffordshire GP Federation is a membership organisation supporting North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent primary care, including all 66 GP Practices and 13 Primary Care Networks. North Staffordshire GP Federation were awarded the APMS contract for Meir Park and Weston Coyney Surgery on a permanent basis in November 2024, having previously held it in a caretaker arrangement.


Training / Meetings

* Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
* Participate positively and actively in clinical and practice meetings.
* Support medical students and other training roles as part of the practice’s ethos around training and development.
* Manage patient management and improve use of telephone and other technologies to balance continuity of care and access to services.
* Communicate and reassure patients about alternative care options when appropriate and safe.
* Highlight safety or quality concerns to the Practice Management team when necessary.

* Respect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
* All information accessed in the course of duties should be treated as strictly confidential and disclosed only to authorised persons in line with practice policies and data protection.

* Apply practice policies, standards and guidance; discuss impact with team; participate in audit where appropriate.

Person Specification

Essential

* Meets DBS reference standards and has a clear criminal record; willing to work flexible hours to meet demands and commitments to equality and data protection.
* Eligible to work in the UK; current UK professional registration; NHS and GP-related requirements.

Experience

* Essential: knowledge of triage; primary care experience; General Practitioner with over 5 years experience; experience of ICB initiatives; knowledge of clinical governance; knowledge of Quality and Outcomes Framework; understanding of Patient Choice; experience of medicines management; ability to cope with stressful situations.
* Desirable: understanding of GP commissioning.

Qualifications

* Essential: Qualified General Practitioner; Full GMC Registration to practice as a GP; inclusion on Performers List; eligibility for Medical Indemnity Membership; commitment to professional development.
* Desirable: MRCGP.

Skills and Abilities

* Autonomous working; ability to work in a multidisciplinary team; problem solving; IT skills; flexibility and punctuality; good telephone and interpersonal skills; detail-oriented; clear written and verbal communication.
* Desirable: knowledge of EMIS and SystemOne.

Personal Qualities

* Adaptable, respectful, caring; confident in decision-making; good planning and task management; able to work under pressure; reliable; proactive; maintains confidentiality.
