The Environmental Manager will oversee the company’s environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and ISO accreditations across multiple sites. You will manage key projects, including regulatory reporting, permit applications, and environmental improvements, ensuring alignment with our operational objectives. The role involves close collaboration with internal teams, site managers, and external consultants to optimise performance, meet environmental standards, and ensure sustainable practices.




Duties & Responsibilities



Environmental & Sustainability

• Ensure continuous environmental compliance to ISO accreditations and participate in annual external audits

• Oversee compliance with Environmental Agency (EA) regulations and reporting requirements

• Monitor environmental permits, including aspects such as Site plans, dust control, noise monitoring, and waste storage

• Conduct site audits and assessments to evaluate compliance with regulatory standards, identify risks, and implement corrective measures

• Support the preparation and submission of permit applications for new or existing sites, including the transition to updated permits

• Develop and implement the Corporate Social Responsibility action plan relating to the Environment such as, Group/ site performance dashboards for energy, waste, water and carbon emissions

• Lead and support projects for energy-saving initiatives and carbon footprint reduction programs

• Identify and execute waste reduction and recycling strategies to enhance operational sustainability

• Conduct regular site visits to ensure compliance and foster environmental best practices

• Collaborate with site managers and other site members to implement environmental policies effectively

• Manage adherence to waste storage limits and safety protocols

• Work closely with quality, health, and safety managers to create an integrated approach to compliance and sustainability

• Provide guidance and training to site teams on environmental/ sustainability regulations and best practices

• Foster a holistic culture of environmental awareness and responsibility within the organisation

• Analyse changes to environmental regulations aligning them with business operations

• Lead investigations into site incident where required. Ensuring; the investigation and documentation is appropriate, corrective actions are suitable and achievable.

• Maintain the group; aspects and impacts register, SWOT and Pestel analysis


Key Skills and Competencies



Mandatory

• Formal Environmental qualification e.g. ISEP (IEMA) Certificate Sustainability and Environmental Management or WAMITAB (Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board) qualification or equivalent

• Demonstrable experience in environmental management, preferably within waste, recycling, or manufacturing industries

• Have a comprehensive knowledge of 14001 ISO standard.

• Experience of managing Environmental permits, EA site visits and non-conformance reports e.g. CAR and WARs.

• Strong analytical skills to assess regulatory changes and their operational implications

• Proven ability to implement practical, business-aligned solutions for regulatory compliance

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration

• Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and deliver on multiple objectives

• Preparing permit/ variation applications.

Desirable

• NEBOSH General Certificate (Safety) or equivalent.

• Experience in managing noise and dust suppression systems, including reporting and mitigation

• Familiarity with carbon footprint reduction initiatives and energy efficiency programs

• Knowledge of 9001 (Quality), 50001(Energy) and or 45001 (Safety)

• Familiarity with CSR reporting

• Membership to ISEP (IEMA) IOSH
