Capital Delivery Service – Sheffield City Council
Sheffield City Council’s Capital Delivery Service (CDS) is seeking a Senior Civil or Structural Engineer to play a key leadership role within its in‑house multidisciplinary design team.
This is a senior professional post with responsibility for leading the delivery of civil and/or structural engineering work, providing technical leadership across projects, and supporting the wider development of the engineering team.
You will act as a technical authority within your discipline, working closely with project managers, architects, cost consultants and external partners to deliver complex public‑sector capital projects from early feasibility through to construction.
What you’ll be doing
1. Leading and overseeing delivery of civil and/or structural engineering design and inspection work
2. Providing technical leadership and professional judgement across multiple projects
3. Managing defined projects or workstreams, ensuring quality, programme and budget objectives are met
4. Contributing to multidisciplinary project teams and representing the Council in technical discussions
5. Supervising, mentoring and developing junior and intermediate engineers
6. Supporting service management activities, including procurement input and technical interviews where required
About you
You will be a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer with significant professional experience, able to apply sound technical judgement, lead others, and manage complex engineering challenges within a public‑sector or consultancy environment.
