Inpatient Consultant Psychiatrist in Older Adults, for functional and dementia care.
This less than fulltime position has been available for some time and is covered by a locum. It is an 8 Programmed Activities (PAs) post with 6 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2.0 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs).
Responsibilities
* Support their team, department and organisation to follow the Trust’s Values in day-to-day work; we are kind, respectful and we work with our communities.
* Provide clinical leadership and supervision to the team; work directly with older adult men and their families; liaise with community older adult consultant psychiatrists as appropriate.
* Develop links with acute Trust Emergency Departments, inpatient and community geriatric services and NELFT community mental health services for older people to continually improve services.
* Work as Consultant for a multidisciplinary team including direct input to clinical cases.
* Expected to shape and support pilot innovations in clinical skill mix; participate in Multi-Professional Approved Clinicians in training and hold clinical responsibility for a caseload from the inpatient cohort when qualified.
* For the MPAC Consultant Psychologist associated with two Elderly Wards, act as Responsible Clinician for a caseload across both wards and collaborate with consultant psychiatrists on clinical leadership and MDT working; provide continuity of care into the community to support better pathway working and reduce readmissions and length of stay for more complex patients.
On-call and rota
The postholder will be part of the Senior Psychiatrist on-call rota covering out of hours for Mental Health Services in NELFT. The on-call covers Adult and Older Adult services. This is currently a 1:40 rota with a 3% Category A salary supplement. The daytime Section 136 rota (9am-5pm) has an approximate frequency of 1 day every 3 months; all Section 12 approved doctors are expected to take a lead on emergency Mental Health Act assessments in the Section 136 suite on the Goodmayes site.
Requirements/Qualifications
* Appropriately qualified Consultant Older Adult Psychiatrist with Approved Clinician (AC) certification.
* Commitment to establishing a culture of care and collaborative working on the unit.
Other
We are currently piloting innovative ways of working with our clinical skill mix to support the best care to patients. There is an expectation that Multi-Professional Approved Clinicians in training will, when qualified, hold clinical responsibility for a caseload from the inpatient cohort.
