Job Description The part time Biology Laboratory Technician will provide support for the general operations of the Biology and Microbiology Labs; and to offer assistance with maintaining the greenhouse. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE : 1. Shared responsibility for the well-being and proper condition of the biological science laboratories and the greenhouse. 2. Interface with students and the public in a professional manner. 3. Preparation of materials for Biology and Microbiology laboratory classes. Materials may include glassware, chemical solutions, kits, models, live materials, microbiologic media, and microbial subcultures. 4. Maintenance of laboratory rooms including Microbiology laboratories and greenhouse spaces. 5. Preparation and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. 6. Assist with laboratory set up as needed. 7. Ordering, inventory and maintenance of supplies, including the preparation of quote/bid requests and purchasing/payment voucher requisitions. 8. Compliance with Chemical Hygiene and Right to Know Safety regulations, including labeling, storage and disposal of chemical and biological laboratory materials. 9. Attend all federally or NJ State mandated training to include, but not limited to, Right-To-Know and Blood Borne Pathogens. 10. Comply with all safety, fire and smoking regulations. 11. Complete all mandatory compliance and safety training as scheduled by Human Resources. 12. Perform all other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications 1. Associate degree in laboratory-based science. 2. Two years related experience in biology, microbiology or greenhouse technology preferred. 3. Demonstrated knowledge and ability in the proper handling of chemicals. 4. Demonstrated knowledge and ability in methods of maintaining a neat, clean and safe work environment. 5. Experience in preparation of materials for Biology and Microbiology academic laboratories preferred. 6. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft office programs such as MS word and Excel. 7. Demonstrated ability to work independently.
