Role: HGV Mechanic
Location: Moss Side, Leyland
Contract:Full time (36.25 hours/4 days per week) / Permanent
Salary: £33,366 - £36,124

South Ribble Borough Council are looking for a qualified HGV Technician to join the vehicle/plant maintenance team at the Moss Side depot Leyland. Candidates will have a minimum Level 3 qualification in HGV vehicle repair or be able to demonstrate experience and working knowledge in municipal vehicle repairs. Working hours are 7.00am to 4:45pm condensed over 4 days per week with overtime available and all the benefits associated with working for Local Government.
We require someone who can work flexibly and efficiently ensuring maximum fleet availability is maintained at all times.
You will be part of a team in busy workshop and may be required to work a flexible shift pattern to maintain fleet availability over the day. The ability of the Council to provide essential services expected by local residents is reliant on having vehicles maintained to a very high standard, so we’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work.
What you’ll be getting up to
* Repair and servicing of the authority’s vehicle and plant fleet as directed by the Workshop Manager
* Maintain vehicles/equipment to standards required by DVSA.
* Carry out necessary diagnostic work and specialist equipment repairs.
* Attend roadside breakdowns and or arrange recovery where repairs are not possible.
* Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed correctly and diligently for all tasks.
* Ordering of parts/equipment from relevant suppliers.
* Adhere to all H&S requirements relevant to your working environment.
* Providing guidance and support to colleagues and apprentices in order for them to achieve their goals and aims.
Who we’re looking for
* Experience in fabrication, welding and cutting techniques.
* Experience carrying out PMIs and MOT preparations.
* Flexible working across a wide range of vehicles and municipal equipment
* Level 3 qualification in vehicle repairs or be able to demonstrate suitable experience and working knowledge in motor vehicle repairs.
* A strong understanding of RCV operation
* Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical components and systems.
* A flexible, positive attitude and approach to work to become part of a close working team.
Otherrequirements
* This role requires you to operate a HGV, therefore you must possess a valid HGV Class 2 Licence.
* MIG welding Level 2 or above
* Successful applicants will be subject to a DBS check (applied and paid for by the Council).
