Join Tetra Tech as a GC‑MS Analyst: precision chromatography for high‑impact environmental programmes
Purpose And Scope Of The Role
You will join Tetra Tech’s Bedford laboratory as a GC‑MS Analyst, working within the gas chromatography team to deliver trace organic analysis for environmental and regulatory projects. This permanent, full‑time position is scheduled Monday to Friday, 14:00–22:00. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include operating and maintaining single and triple quadrupole GC‑MS systems, preparing and scheduling samples, processing results into LIMS, performing routine QC and basic instrument troubleshooting, and coordinating with extraction and senior analyst colleagues to meet throughput targets. The laboratory supports regional monitoring and consultancy projects that handle thousands of samples annually.
Your Impact In This Position
In the short term you will ensure reliable, timely analysis and data entry that keeps project schedules on track. Medium‑term contributions include improving workflow efficiency, reducing re‑runs through robust QC, and mentoring junior staff. Longer term you will be positioned to lead method development, take on senior analyst responsibilities or transition into technical or client‑facing roles across Tetra Tech’s environmental consultancy projects, gaining exposure to significant contracts and regulatory work that support career development.

* Analytical rigour and QC: Consistent application of quality control procedures, interpretation of chromatograms, flagging anomalies and raising non‑conformances where appropriate.
* Sample preparation and throughput management: Proficient in sample preparation techniques (LLE, SPE etc.), scheduling instrument time and coordinating with extraction staff to meet high throughput demands.
* Data management and systems: Accurate processing and entry of results into LIMS, familiarity with instrument control and data analysis software and maintaining traceable records.
* Communication and teamwork: Clear, professional communication with extractors, senior analysts and project teams; collaborative attitude in a multidisciplinary laboratory environment.
