Volunteer Keeper – Manchester Metropolitan University
The current opportunity is available for Manchester Met students. You must be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
The Volunteer Keeper role offers a unique student placement opportunity for individuals studying animal welfare or related fields. This hands‑on, supportive role is designed to provide practical experience within a real‑world animal care setting.
Hours
Up to 16 hours per week. The successful students will work hours when their academic timetable allows. This will be discussed with the college.
Requirements
* Currently enrolled on a relevant course of study.
* Completed DBS (arranged by the Dept of Natural Sciences) before a start date can be agreed.
Physical Requirements
* Physical activity, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Normal expected load is around 20‑25 kg.
* Ability to work in all weathers.
Desirable Skills
* Interest or previous experience in animal welfare or husbandry.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
* A caring and responsible attitude towards animals.
* Ability to work to a high standard of cleanliness and organisation.
* A willingness to learn and develop practical skills.
