Your mission is to support a safety and licensing manager in the management of environmental impacts and associated permitting on the project. We are seeking an experienced Permitting Manager to develop and maintain the environmental impacts assessment for our nuclear fuels manufacturing project in the U.K. This role is crucial to the success of our project and ensuring high levels of regulatory compliance and maintaining the highest standards of environmental compliance.
The majority of the project activities will take place in the UK, where the site is located, with limited travels to France or Germany.
Mission Description
Accountabilities
* Modelling, measuring, and assessing environmental radioactivity and other environmental contaminants
* Undertaking offsite radiological and environmental impact assessments for discharges and disposal routes
* Performing prospective (predictive/modelled) and retrospective (measured/monitored) assessments
Responsibilities
* Develop the overall environmental assessment, including permitting condition arrangements and handbooks, and create a detailed planning schedule identifying assessments, governance processes, and timing
* Author technical specifications for preparing environmental baseline reports and other submissions to authorities
* Specify requirements for conducting specific environmental assessments and supporting reports
* Coordinate with technical specialists, engineers, and operations teams to gather data for assessments
* Identify relevant environmental features, devices, systems, and circuits important for environmental protection and advise on their implementation
* Develop processes for Design Reviews, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, and HASANs to ensure environmental compliance
* Author environmental assessments and reports within capabilities and time constraints
* Review assessments and reports prepared by others within the organization or by consultants
* Identify relevant environmental impact scenarios and incorporate best practices from elsewhere in the group
* Manage environmental scenarios during construction, including impact assessments and change control
* Liaise with Environmental Agencies and Local Planning Authorities, representing the organization during permitting processes
* Provide senior guidance on environmental matters to management and stakeholders
* Facilitate environmental workshops, design reviews, and assessments, including BAT options
* Provide training and briefings on UK environmental approaches
Profile
The candidate will have a proven record of delivering environmental impact assessments, including authoring reports and managing third-party contractors.
Experience in authoring environmental assessments and managing consultants, developing specifications, methodologies, and strategies.
Knowledge of ecology, soil characteristics, discharges, radioactive contaminants, and other relevant topics is advantageous.
Experience with governance, review, regulator liaison, and specific experience in the nuclear fuel cycle is highly desirable.
Position Location
Bristol, England, initially at the start of the project, with eventual transfer to a site 30 km from Bristol.
