Shift Pattern

* Week 1:
o Sunday 08:00 – 16:00
o Tuesday 12:45 – 20:45
o Wednesday 12:45 – 20:45
o Thursday 08:00 – 16:00
o Friday 08:00 – 16:00
* Week 2:
o Monday 12:45 – 20:45
o Tuesday 08:00 – 16:00
o Wednesday 08:00 – 16:00
o Friday 12:45 – 20:45
o Saturday 12:45 – 20:45

Must be 18 years or older to comply with health and safety legislation.


Purpose of the Shift Lead

* Lead the fill operation, delivering a sales floor ready to trade.
* Coordinate resources to serve, sell and fill; lead the floor in the absence of the Colleague Manager.
* Coach colleagues on One Best Way and drive productivity before store opening.
* Allocate resources effectively to deliver a quick payment experience.
* Enable all daily operational processes to be implemented efficiently across the store area.
* Coordinate the team to deliver a clean, safe and well‑presented store.
* Create a great team atmosphere that is inclusive of everyone.
* Role model great customer service, M&S behaviours and colleague expectations.
* Support Colleague Managers by sharing observations to enhance performance and recognise outstanding colleagues.
* Support nearby stores if operationally required.
* Act as key holder and respond to call‑outs as required.
* Handle opening and closing tasks, vehicle receipt, temperature controls, logging operational issues, cash handling and TSL compliance in peripheral hours.


Key Accountabilities

* Deliver great standards and service by putting the customer first.
* Act on customer feedback to deliver improvement.
* Ensure delivery of brilliant basics.
* Coach the team to deliver excellent product presentation standards.
* Support the delivery of plan A.
* Provide regular feedback to line manager to support colleague performance.
* Assist in training and coaching colleagues, maximising digital tools and channels.
* Identify colleagues for recognition and celebrate success within the store.
* Provide feedback to BIG to improve colleague experience.
* Support Team Manager with store sales and cost targets using MI to identify opportunities and take action.
* Model new ways of working through digital tools.
* Allocate resources efficiently to deliver processes, tasks and service consistently and productively.
* Deliver operational excellence ensuring all processes align with business expectations.
* Maintain a safe and legal store environment.
* Support visual merchandising updates across all launches, events and campaigns.

* Help colleagues develop by listening, asking questions and giving constructive feedback.

Technical Skills and Experience

* Support delivery of excellent customer service and KPIs across the store.
* Good level of digital capability and ability to use relevant systems.
* Strong knowledge of commercial operation, brilliant basics and operational excellence.
* Current working knowledge of all VM principles.
* Good communication skills and ability to build relationships within a team.
* Knowledge of legal requirements related to customer assistant and duty managing roles.
* Maintain high presentation standards with attention to detail and deliver on time.
* Interpret data relevant to the role.
* Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to change.
