There are 2 other physiotherapists in SCBIRT and a wider team of AHPs, assistants, nurses and clinical/neuro psychologists.
We want you to be part of ongoing reflection and service development/quality improvement, optimising the patient experience and outcomes with a strong commitment to PPI work and co‑production. In‑service training programme and supervision are provided.
Significant financial support for CPD is available.
This post is 12 months to cover maternity leave, with 30 hours per week. The successful candidate must be able to transport themselves to visit clients in the community.
Main duties of the job
* Manage a caseload of community‑based clients with complex needs arising from congenital or acquired neurological disorders, using specialist skills and evidence‑based principles.
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Provide leadership and support for junior staff through supervision and appraisal.
* Participate in planning, development and evaluation of services, holding responsibility for defined projects and contributing to service development and innovation.
* Contribute to the maintenance and development of the discipline specific to SHPU and provide specialist advice for the specialist client group both within LTNC and across Sheffield.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
* Accept clinical responsibility for clients with varied challenges requiring advanced clinical reasoning and specialist therapeutic intervention.
* Independently manage and accept clinical responsibility for a designated specialist caseload of adult clients with complex presentations.
* Demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise in assessment, treatment planning, intervention and clinical reasoning.
* Undertake comprehensive specialist assessments, differential diagnosis and formulate individualised treatment plans.
* Contribute to decision‑making about treatment and long‑term management as part of the Long Term Neurological Conditions Inter/Multi‑Disciplinary Team.
* Plan, organise and deliver group therapeutic activities where appropriate.
* Monitor, modify and evaluate treatment to measure outcomes and ensure effectiveness.
* Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up‑to‑date clinical and non‑clinical documentation as required.
* Provide specialist reports and care plans to clients, relatives and services.
* Complete risk assessments and plans to reduce risks such as suicide, substance misuse and other hazards.
* Handle therapeutic handling and moving, providing education for safe equipment use.
* Work with clients, carers and relatives who may have distressing circumstances, imparting complex information sensitively.
* Provide therapy services in potentially hazardous conditions, adhering to health and safety policies and reporting incidents.
* Be responsible for equipment safety and compliance with departmental policy.
* Assess capacity, obtain informed consent and work within legal frameworks.
* Communicate complex, sensitive information to clients and carers effectively.
* Provide education to relatives, carers and professionals to promote understanding of rehabilitation aims.
* Demonstrate highly developed dexterity, coordination and palpatory skills for assessment and manual treatment.
Leadership
* Plan, coordinate and allocate work for the discipline, ensuring high standards of clinical care.
* Provide effective leadership, performance management, supervision guidance and appraisal for junior staff.
* Delegate and monitor clinical duties to therapists or assistants, ensuring competence.
Service Development
* Lead and manage designated projects in operational planning and policy implementation.
* Undertake research and audit projects relevant to LTNC services.
* Maintain accurate, comprehensive data and statistics.
* Comply with SHSC requirements related to policy, governance and legislation, reviewing and updating procedures.
Person Specification
Knowledge and skills
* Knowledge of LTNC in a relevant clinical specialty and ability to apply this in community settings.
* Knowledge of a broad range of acute and deteriorating conditions affecting the recovery pathway.
* Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
* Ability to work as part of a team and build effective relationships.
* Working knowledge of needs of clients with mental health issues.
* Working knowledge of needs of clients with social care issues.
Training and qualifications
* Diploma or Degree in Physiotherapy.
* Current HCPC registration and relevant professional body registration (CSP).
* Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development with personal development plan.
* Training from Higher Education Institution for graduate student supervision.
* First‑line management or leadership course at masters level.
* Relevant validated clinical courses to masters level or equivalent knowledge/experience.
Experience
* Post‑graduate experience in clinical specialty within the NHS.
* Experience supervising, managing and developing junior staff and rehabilitation assistants through PDR and teaching.
* Experience with audit and outcome measures interpretation.
* Previous experience at specialist level.
* Involvement in service development.
* Involvement in research.
Other
* Meet health requirements of the Trust.
* Post holder must be a car driver with a valid licence or have access to alternative transport due to visits and non‑portable equipment.
