Role Overview

Assets Support Officer – Maldon District Council

Permanent, Full Time

Salary: From £30,599.83 to £32,489.41 per annum

Location: Maldon

Closing Date: 17th June 2026

Hybrid working – expected to attend the office 2 days per week.


Role Purpose

Develop, deliver and maintain the asset management system. Work on a wide and varied programme of works to provide a repair and maintenance service to Council assets, ensuring detailed and accurate records are kept and demonstrating professionalism, inclusivity and customer focus.


Accountabilities – Service Delivery

* Provide key technical support to the Principal Assets Manager.
* Maintain, monitor and continuously develop the Asset Management system.
* Ensure general repair and maintenance work to all Council assets is completed efficiently, recording defect reporting for assets such as play equipment, buildings, infrastructure, green spaces and outdoor furniture.
* Assist with condition surveys and inspections of assets and record results on the asset management system.
* Administer leases, licences and other legal agreements for Council assets, corresponding with leaseholders and other parties as required.
* Work with Finance to invoice leaseholders correctly for rentals and fees, support the Coast and Countryside team with purchase orders, budget sheets and financial aspects. Update and monitor the team training matrix.
* Respond to Freedom of Information requests and customer enquiries.
* Support internal and external audit processes.
* Manage vehicle fleet records, including MOT, servicing, tax, insurance, and assist with Health and Safety matters such as risk assessments.
* Contribute to continuous improvement ideas to enhance customer satisfaction and service delivery.
* Accurately update all relevant customer and back‑office information systems, maintaining data protection principles.
* Maintain confidentiality in line with policy and data protection legislation.
* Support continuous improvement of processes and procedures within the service using best practice.
* Take ownership of complex cases, lead in areas of specialism and develop tools and guidance to enable team self‑service.


Experience and Qualifications

* General knowledge of Health & Safety legislation relevant to asset management.
* Good standard of education: minimum 5 GCSEs; NVQ Level 3 / A Level or equivalent experience.
* Knowledge of asset leases, licence agreements and property use optimisation.
* Understanding of the Uniform system.
* Excellent customer liaison skills, delivering high‑quality service.
* Proficient in Asset Management systems, with inputting and extracting information.
* Knowledge of building inspection requirements and basic construction knowledge.
* Experience using asset management systems, cyclical maintenance procedures and building repairs.
* Strong analytical, problem‑solving and escalation skills.
* Ability to work within a hybrid environment.
* Effective time‑management, planning and prioritisation in a fast‑paced setting.
* Excellent Outlook 365 email and calendar management.
* Organisational skills for managing electronic records and diaries.
* Confidence using Microsoft Office 365 and service‑specific systems such as GIS, Uniform and Academy.
* Clear verbal and written communication, including reporting and business cases.
* Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders and remain professional under pressure.
