About the Team
The Enabling Independence Team (EIT) is a dynamic, county-wide service supporting adults with mental health and/or substance misuse needs to regain control of their lives. We deliver short-term, strengths-based support that empowers people to live independently, connect with their communities, and build lasting resilience.
About the Role
As an Enabling Independence Support Worker, you'll deliver short term strengths-based interventions that promote recovery, independence, and social inclusion. Working closely with individuals, carers, and professionals, you'll support people to build life skills, confidence, and community connections. You will provide tailored, person-centred support to help individuals achieve their goals, promoting independence through practical interventions and enablement strategies.
An average day for an EIT support worker will consist of attending home visits to meet service users in their home and support them to achieve the goals they have identified. This could include supporting people with public transport, shopping, accessing community-based activities, budget management to name a few. The role will require driving within the area that you cover to attend visits. Verbal and written communication with various agencies is a core part of what we do to support people to access the wider community, and this will be with statutory and voluntary sector services. Support workers are expected to write up daily notes for each person they visit using the relevant Surrey systems (training is provided). Support workers manage their diaries.
"I have been in my role of Enabling Independence Worker for the Adult Social Care Team (Mental Health) for 7 months. I have been impressed with the quality of the training provided, particularly the Induction training. The management team were very supportive and encouraging, allowing me to start the role at my pace. While it's a rewarding job, it can also be challenging at times. The support I get from my team is invaluable. Also, when working for Surrey you have access to several excellent resources, particularly around health and wellbeing." - Tricia Slater, Enabling Independence Team Worker.
