Data Governance Manager

Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week)
Salary: £56,863 per annum
About the Role
AFBI is seeking a strategic and driven Data Governance Manager to lead the development and implementation of our Data Governance Framework. This is a pivotal role that supports the successful delivery of AFBI's data strategy, ensuring best practices in data management and secure governance are embedded across the organisation. You will play a central role in shaping how AFBI manages, protects, and leverages data to support scientific research and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the design, development, and early implementation of AFBI's Data Governance Framework
2. Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to establish and embed data governance policies and processes
3. Set and maintain data standards to support high-quality data management and security practices
4. Drive improvements in data exploitation and lifecycle management across cloud-based and on-premise systems
5. Support agile delivery of data-related projects, particularly within Scrum and Kanban environments
Essential Criteria
6. Proven experience leading data governance initiatives in a complex organisation
7. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
8. Demonstrated success implementing governance frameworks, policies, and best practices
9. In-depth knowledge of data architecture, relational databases, data warehouses, and master data management
10. Experience working in agile teams, with a focus on Scrum and Kanban methodologies
11. Accreditation with a relevant professional body (IRMS, CILIP, CDMP, BCS), or equivalent professional experience
12. Associate Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) qualification or equivalent
