Position Overview:
Aventus Energy Ltd is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Principal Structural Engineer to provide technical leadership and coordination across multi-disciplinary engineering teams. The Principal Structural Engineer will be responsible for ensuring engineering excellence throughout the full project lifecycle, from concept development to detailed design, fabrication, and installation.
The Principal Structural Engineer will play a key role in driving innovation, optimising designs, and ensuring compliance with industry standards while delivering high-quality and cost-effective solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership & Project Execution:
* Be the subject matter expert for structural engineering, providing hands on technical expertise in the origination of project deliverables which are technically correct and meet the required quality and industry safety requirements.
* Deliver assigned engineering deliverables across multiple EPCI projects, coordinating with procurement, fabrication, and construction teams as required in order to deliver high quality results to clients.
* Support the Lead Engineer in the development of engineering documentation, including specifications, calculations, drawings, and reports.
* Responsible for check and approval of engineering deliverables in support of an auditable quality assurance process.
* Conduct design reviews and technical evaluations to ensure designs are optimised for fabrication, installation, and operational efficiency.
* Ensure compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and regulatory guidelines (e.g. ASME, ISO, DNV, API, Eurocodes etc).
Multi-Disciplinary Coordination:
* Act as a technical interface between, procurement, fabrication, and construction teams on assigned projects.
* Work closely with other discipline engineers to ensure fully integrated designs.
* Manage design changes and technical clarifications with clients and third-party stakeholders.
Technical Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
* Drive innovation by implementing new technologies, digital tools, and engineering best practices.
* Support the Lead Engineer by guiding the engineering department on adoption of new best practise and nomination of standards as and when required.
* Identify opportunities for optimisation, cost reduction, and improved efficiency in engineering solutions.
* Support research and development initiatives for energy transition and renewable energy projects.
Team Development & Mentorship:
* Lead, mentor and develop less experienced engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
* Conduct training sessions and knowledge-sharing initiatives to enhance team capabilities.
Risk Management & Compliance:
* Conduct engineering risk assessments and ensure mitigation strategies are in place.
* Ensure adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies throughout all engineering activities.
* Support regulatory compliance efforts, including certifications and approvals from industry bodies.
Budget and Cost Control:
* Support the commercial and technical bidding process by estimating engineering project budgets and other bid development activities.
* Manage project budgets, ensuring that projects are delivered within financial constraints and variation control is properly managed.
* Work with procurement teams to ensure the cost-effective selection of materials and resources without compromising quality or safety.
Qualifications / Requirements / Experience:
Education:
* Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or related discipline). A Master’s degree is preferred but not essential.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership with a recognised institution (e.g. IMechE, ICE, IET, IStructE) is preferred but not essential.
Experience:
* A minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, with demonstrable experience of delivering engineering projects within the energy sector, preferably in offshore and energy projects.
* Prior experience within an engineering consultancy environment is preferred but not essential.
* Strong experience in EPCI project execution, with an understanding of the full lifecycle from concept to completion.
Technical Skills:
* Technical expertise in energy engineering, including knowledge of design principles, codes, standards, and construction methodologies (e.g. ASME, ISO, DNV, API, Eurocodes etc).
* Demonstrable experience in industry standard engineering software (e.g. STAAD, MathCAD Inventor, ABAQUS, AutoCAD, SIMSOLID, S-Frame, etc).
