An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 1.0 WTE Band 8a clinical psychology position in Paediatric Renal Disease. The post holder will provide a clinical psychology service for children with renal disease at the Nottingham Childrens Hospital The Nottingham Childrens Hospital is part of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Nottingham Children’s Hospital cares for around 40,000 children each year from Nottinghamshire and beyond. We treat a full range of conditions including planned treatment and surgeries; emergency surgical/medical treatment; burns and plastics; neurological conditions; oncology; cleft lip and palate; renal conditions and transplantation; spinal and orthopaedic. Main duties of the job This is an exciting opportunity for an appropriately qualified Clinical Psychologist to work in a growing and innovative paediatric medical psychology team. You will have specialist experience of working with physical health problems, or experience of working in child and adolescent mental health with an interest and desire to bring that knowledge to work in paediatrics. The main duties will be to offer a service to children with renal disease through consultation to medical staff and direct work with children and their families. Your main base will be at the QMC Hospital campus. You will be part of a Clinical Psychology Department which incorporates specialisms in Paediatric Medical Psychology, Adult Medical Psychology and Child and Adult Neuropsychology. You will not be expected to have pre-existing experience of working in this area, however, applicants with experience of working with children and who are interested in the emotional impact of physical health are encouraged to apply. Working for our organisation The successful applicant will be welcomed to the Department of Clinical Psychology & Neuropsychology within the trust. Currently we are a rapidly expanding service and we work across a number of medical inpatient and outpatient services within the Trust .We have excellent links with the University of Nottingham and regional Clinical Psychology Doctorate Courses. Appropriate clinical supervision will be provided by clinical psychologists working in the department. There is lots of scope for career development: from CPD and developing further skills in the specialty and supporting service development and innovation, to the chance to contribute to research, or policy work in psychological care for people with renal disease. Person specification Physical and Other Essential criteria • Ability to move between a number of locations within the hospital in a working day. • Up to date immunisations are required (including TB, HepB) Desirable criteria • Ability to work on days to suit the service Planning and Organisational Essential criteria • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS/HCPC • Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations • Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice • Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings Desirable criteria • Experience and/or training in the supervision of other psychologists. Analytical and Judgement Essential criteria • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including both quantitative and qualitative methods.
