Role Summary

You will deliver teaching activities independently within a UG teaching laboratory (this could include a language laboratory, study skills workshop or fieldwork setting), in support of teaching for which an academic member of staff has prime responsibility. The work should not involve any substantial preparation and should be closely supervised by the academic member of staff responsible for the module.

Main duties


* Deliver teaching activities independently within an undergraduate teaching laboratory in support of teaching for which others have primary responsibility.
* Work independently to solve student problems.
* Supervise class activities within a framework designed by others.
* Assist students as required offering advice to help them with learning problems.
* If required, assist with the marking of coursework, applying assessment criteria. (If the marking is summative, including assessed work contributing to the final award – as a mark or a credit – such as unseen examinations, essays, dissertations or presentations, then the role-holder’s marking is subject to validation by the academic supervisor.)
* Update own subject knowledge, and to develop own teaching expertise.
* Ensure core health and safety requirements, and similar rules and regulations, are met as appropriate.
* Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the teaching.

Person Specification

* Degree or equivalent relevant to teaching area.
* Practical experience of applying the relevant skills and techniques for the role.
* Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively.
* Ability to access and organise resources successfully.
* Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
