Are you a seasoned Geotechnical Engineer looking to make a tangible impact on one of the UK's largest and most high-profile infrastructure projects? EDF, following the success of Hinkley Point C, is expanding its Sizewell C (SZC) team and is seeking top talent to join the project in Suffolk. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a nuclear new build that will deliver reliable, low-carbon electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, supporting the UK's Net Zero ambitions.
As part of the Engineering & Technical function within the Civil Works Programme, the Geotechnical Engineer will play a pivotal role in managing geotechnical risks, setting and endorsing geotechnical requirements, and ensuring compliance across designers and contractors.
What You'll Be Doing
As a key member of the team, your work will span the full breadth of geotechnical engineering on this mega-project, including:
Leading ground investigation campaigns, both offshore and onshore
Overseeing site trials and ground stabilisation/improvement
Supporting road, rail, and marine infrastructure projects, including jetty foundations
Conducting material testing on peat, crag sand, and other soils
Managing earthworks, including excavation, transport, blending, and backfill
Implementing groundwater control, dewatering, and fluvial flood prevention measures
Designing and reviewing major ground structures: sea defence bunds, piles, cut-off walls, tunnel shafts
Contributing to tunnelling operations in sand and offshore intake/outfall structures
Monitoring ground movement impacts on existing nuclear assets
Developing and maintaining a digital ground model and overseeing instrumentation and monitoring programmes
You will collaborate closely with multiple stakeholders including design teams (AtkinsRealis), Civil Works Delivery teams, the Civil Works Alliance, Design Authority, Responsible Designer (Edvance-CNEPE-TEGG), and external regulators such as ONR, EA, and Sizewell B teams.

Desirable:
Nuclear sector experience, particularly in safety-related structures
Previous work on nuclear new build projects (e.g., Hinkley Point C)
Higher degree (MSc, MEng, PhD) in Ground Engineering / Geotechnics
Why Join EDF at Sizewell C?
Work on one of the UK's most significant megaprojects, at the forefront of energy transition
Opportunity to shape the future of UK energy, supporting Net Zero goals
Exposure to a variety of civil, marine, and tunnelling projects across ground engineering disciplines
Collaborate with industry-leading designers, contractors, and regulators
If you're ready to take your geotechnical expertise to the next level and be part of a landmark project, EDF and Morson Edge want to hear from you.
