Overview

Planning/Design Engineer - Electric (GTC) role at GTC, part of BUUK Infrastructure. The position supports electrical design and technical activities related to new connection works from the GTC network and assessment of new Low Carbon Technology (LCT) connections on existing supplies.


Responsibilities

* Provide electrical design & technical support to the business and its partners for new connection works and LCT connection assessments.
* Undertake network demand calculations and design Points of Connection (POCs) from existing electric networks to provide technical solutions and quotations for 3rd party POC Applications.
* Undertake network export calculations for modelling embedded generation applications on existing networks and assess/approve embedded generation in line with ENA ER G98 & G99 and company standards.
* Perform network modelling for reinforcement designs, including emerging technologies where required.
* Liaise with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), other Independents, ICPs, and internal departments on all design aspects.
* Collaborate with other departments to progress design, construction, and records processes for accepted projects.
* Implement and develop processes to internally communicate technical and maintenance requirements for accepted projects.
* Develop and use systems/databases to manage customer requirements and facilitate DNO/ICP relations.
* Approve peer designs as required under authorisation limits and provide accurate, high-quality work within the department.
* Maintain a helpful and informative work environment and assist the Senior Design Engineer to improve efficiency.
* Ensure all relevant information is recorded accurately and submitted on time.


Qualifications

* Technical qualification in an engineering subject at Level 2 City & Guilds or equivalent; membership in a recognised engineering institution (e.g., IET).
* Experience/Knowledge: At least one year designing electricity distribution networks; knowledge of health and safety legislation; familiarity with current legislation, electrical standards & specifications, and ENA recommendations related to GTC networks; understanding implications for safe network management.
* Abilities/Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills.
* Desirable: Engineer degree or equivalent; current CSCS card; two+ years experience; ability to use Microsoft Office; ability to use network design software (e.g., WinDebut).
